Stephen Burant has a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and worked for 26 years in the Bureau of Intelligence and
Research at the Department of State; he retired in late 2019. Before State, he worked for four years at the US Information Agency and for five years at the Library of Congress as a Soviet/East European analyst. In the 1990s and early 2000s, he published numerous articles on international relations in Central and Eastern Europe, including Ukraine. Some of these articles were translated into Ukrainian and Polish and published in Ukraine and Poland, respectively. Stephen has traveled to Kyiv twice and L'viv once.
