Congratulations to Stuart Silverman, our new President-Elect.  During his professional life, Stuart has practiced health care law, both with government, as well as in private practice.  Jake Matysek will complete his service as President on June 30, 2025.
Mr. Silverman was an attorney with the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit in the Office of the Inspector General for the District of Columbia (OIG).  He also was designated as a Special Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Columbia.  

Prior to joining the OIG, Stuart Silverman was in private practice with Greenberg Traurig, and was also with the Office of the General Counsel for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).  During his law firm association, he provided counsel to health care clients on fraud and abuse, managed care, Medicare reimbursement as well as long term care issues.  While with HHS, he represented the Health Care Financing Administration in federal court and before administrative tribunals on issues arising under the Medicare and Medicaid programs.  

Stuart Silverman has held memberships in professional organizations and has served in various capacities. Specifically, he held leadership positions with the American Health Lawyers Association (AHLA).  He was Vice-Chair for the HMOs and Health Plans Practice Group, and Co-Chair of the Sarbanes-Oxley Task Force.  He was Chair of the Corporate Governance Task Force.  Mr. Silverman also served as the Chair of the AHLA Business Law and Governance Practice Group, and as Co-Chair of the AHLA Public Sector Health Lawyers Task Force.  

Mr. Silverman was a member of the Advisory Board for the BNA publication Health Care Fraud Report, and was a member of the Steering Committee of the Health Law Section for the District of Columbia Bar.

Stuart Silverman was an adjunct professor at American University Washington College of Law.  He was also guest lecturer at the Tsinghua University School of Law in Beijing, China for an eight-lecture series on American health law (May 2011).  He was a guest lecturer at Temple University School of Law for an annual class session on health care fraud enforcement initiatives.  He has written numerous articles on wide-ranging issues, and has been a panel speaker at health law conferences.

Mr. Silverman also presented to Federal Judges on behalf of the School of Magistrates in Brazil on the subject of enforcement efforts in the United States to combat fraud in the health care system (May 2015).      
           
Early in his career, Stuart Silverman was an attorney with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.  While there, his duties varied pertaining to the Clean Air Act.  In the latter part of his tenure, he served as agency counsel on attainment of air quality at steel mills.  Mr. Silverman was also a Special Assistant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, Civil Division, responsible for representing the government in federal district court and in the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.    

Stuart Silverman received his J.D. degree from Temple University School of Law, and is a member of the Pennsylvania and District of Columbia Bars.  He also is a member of the United States Supreme Court.  He has held past memberships in the American Bar Association, the International Bar Association, the London Court of International Arbitration, and the National Association of Corporate Directors.
